Your Illustrated Edition

Bawdy and gaudy, London St. Juniper, the Gin Palace Special, is a painted lady from the pages of a penny dreadful. Keeping shop in Stepford Suburbia, your Illustrated Edition calls DC her burly home, and has stalked stages and pages across the United States, collecting quips and taglines as she goes. A costumer, PhD candidate, and Miss DC PinUp 2017, London believes in being over-dressed and over-educated.

Long Form Bio

London St. Juniper is a burlesque and sideshow performer local to Baltimore, Maryland and Washington DC. London's background is in performativity rather than performance; as a PhD candidate, London researches the construction and performance of identity through fashion in Victorian novels and contemporary comics. Overthinking everything, and writing it all down, this sartorial siren has spent the last seventeen years hunting down the illicit in literature as a literary scholar and cultural historian; now finishing a PhD in bad influences, London loves a dirty book, but always keeps the pages pristine.

London has twenty years of experience as an historical costumer, five as a cosplayer, and launched Vicious Poodle PinUp in 2018.

In 2017 London put her doctoral theories into practice, and made her burlesque debut as Batman in Baltimore. Since then she has performed in cities from Philadelphia to Atlanta, from intimate brunches to the huge crowds of DragonCon Burlesque. Performing nerdlesque, burlesque, glass walking and bed of nails, London favors elaborate costumes and unexpected reveals, and finds inspiration in her research.

London St. J is the Gin Palace Special, and Your Illustrated Edition.

What the heck is a "gin palace special"?

In Victorian England, working class factory workers would blow off steam and cut a rug at bars known as "gin palaces," so named for their fancy facades and spirit of choice. Going for lavish glamour and cheap booze, gin palaces were most often rowdy, bawdy, and gaudy - kind of like London St. J.
